Liverpool’s home encounter with Birmingham City at Anfield on Saturday will be the 100th league meeting between the two sides. Birmingham have secured a place in the Europa League for 2011/12 (so long as they can prove their financial well-being first if reports are to be believed) thanks to their League Cup triumph over Arsenal in February, while Liverpool’s chances of competing in Europe next season are receding fast.
