How Was Their Season? No.11: Mamadou Sakho

When the request went out to ask symposium members if we wanted to take part in the Players End of Season review Chris laid out the rules clearly. All the names of the writers and players would go into the hat giving everyone the opportunity to get the juiciest players, or of course the driest ones. My biggest hope was simply not to get someone who had barely featured and would present me with a serious challenge in coming up with 500 to 1000 words. When the draw was made, I was delighted to find out that far from a boring character I’d been given the task of reviewing the season of one of our most enigmatic players – Mamadou Sakho. This was the day after his goalscoring exploits against Borussia Dortmund in the Quarter Final of the Europa League, so I knew I would have plenty to write about.

Of course, as we all know by now this was only the beginning of the “excitement” when it comes to Sakho, a man who would become linked to the Europa League for more than just this goal as the next few weeks went by.
