The starting point when deciding which player to write about for this feature is the post-match polls on this site. Whoever has amassed the most votes must logically be the player of the month.

Yet the subject of our gaze for their efforts in January wasn’t top of the pile. In fact, he wasn’t second, third or even sixth. Behind Henderson, van Dijk, Gomez, Alisson, Wijnaldum and Firmino came our ‘player of the month’, Mohamed Salah.

In truth, this series has often been used in the past to highlight players for all manner of reasons, and this month I want to pose this question: Are we in danger of taking Salah for granted?
