By Krishen Bhautoo (Krishaldo).
When Chris asked the writers and contributors of TTT to write a piece about one of the best 20 post-war Liverpool players (as voted for by the readers), for some reason I was instantaneously drawn to our former Number 9: Fernando José Torres Sanz.
I think I chose El Niño as it still felt like I hadn’t got over an ex that had dumped me. Even though I’ve got a new girlfriend (Suarez) and a bit on the side (Carroll), I can’t but help the occasional fleeting glance at what could have been with my first love. And I have to say, I did love Fernando. I hoped that writing this piece I would somehow gain closure on a relationship that could have been the sweetest ever.
Usually, I write pieces on statistics and compare metrics, but it doesn’t feel right in this instance. As Einstein said: Everything that can be counted does not necessarily count; everything that counts cannot necessarily be counted.
So where to start with Fernando?
