Liverpool opened the Premier League campaign with a 1-0 victory over Stoke City at Anfield last Saturday and will be hoping to make it two in a row – and in the process extend our unbeaten run to ten matches including last season’s results – with victory over Aston Villa at Villa Park on Saturday, 5.30pm kick off UK time.
If the Reds avoid defeat against Paul Lambert’s side, it will be our longest undefeated sequence in the league since 2008/09. A win would also make it the first time we’ve won our opening two league games since 08/09.
Aston Villa finished last season in 15th place with 41 points – 20 points behind the Reds – yet despite struggling in and around the drop zone for most of the campaign, Paul Lambert managed to avoid the sack in his first full season in charge (and he did lead his side to a 3-1 win over us at Anfield before we gained revenge with a 2-1 victory at Villa Park).
Liverpool’s record against teams managed by Paul Lambert (all competitions):
