If someone had suggested to me a couple of years ago that there’d come a stage in the near future where I’d be envious of Bolton’s tactics, league position AND manager, I’d have gently slapped said person in the face with a sausage roll and told them to go back to whichever galaxy they came from, and sharpish. Of course that is exactly – well, minus the sausage roll – the situation I find myself in as 12th placed Liverpool play host to 6th placed Bolton Wanderers. The latter is under the guidance of Owen Coyle who does believe in innovation and modern thinking, while we are suffering under Roy Hodgson’s outdated and regimental methods that were first introduced in 1876. Or so it feels.
