Usually when a team outshoots another by 22 attempts to six it’s a fairly comprehensive victory and folk are eulogising about the attacking side; however, just scratch the surface of this one (excluding any penalty claims) and you’ll see both teams had one big chances each (with both missed).
The xG is similar to the volume of shots, in that Liverpool dominated it, and although 16 shots in the box is the highest we’ve had since… Brighton at home last season, the previous highest was all the way back to Burnley at the start of the 2017/18 season. Regardless, once you divide the xG total by the total shots, you see that the Reds’ shot quality (or expected shot conversion) was well below average at only 8% (normal is 10%, but Liverpool have been up at 12% for a while).
