Having previously looked at expected goals by timing and game state, it’s now time to investigate xG by shot outcome. This can be a little confusing though. I looked at Liverpool’s expected goals for their shots which ended up as goals, and was delighted to see it has increased (per match) for each of the last three seasons.
Ah, but wait a second. Hasn’t the goals per match tally increased too? Yes, yes it has.
