Now the transfer window is closed, it’s time to have a look at what happened in the Premier League and beyond.

With thanks to the data collected by Andrew Beasley on all the summer transfers, we can see that the clubs in the top flight of England took part in a total of 211 incoming and outgoing transfers, totalling £1.775bn (what pandemic?).

Of those 211 transfers, ‘only’ 90 were incoming, the rest were either sold or released (I have excluded loan deals)

Two promoted clubs and a side who released 10 players lead the way for the number of incomings, though the general trend seems to be to broadly maintain or trim the existing squad. Especially Chelsea who did a fantastic job of getting rid of some squad players for good fees (nearly £110m for Abraham, Zouma, Tomori and Guehi).
