Manchester City, a goal to the good at home against Middlesborough, suddenly denied in the closing moments; points dropped. Chelsea destroy Everton, which was mildly amusing. Then Arsenal held, at home, by their rivals Tottenham; points dropped. All this left Liverpool just needing to beat Watford to return to the top of the league for the first time since May 2014, and the first time in Klopp’s tenure. The pressure had slowly built up, the fanbase was nervous – with many ‘we always mess it up when our rivals drop points’ comments pre-match, indicating the collective nerves.
