Liverpool travel to Stamford Bridge for the Saturday lunchtime match – 12.45pm kick off UK time – with the goal of adding to Chelsea’s miserable start to the season and building on our mid-week victory in the Capital One Cup against Bournemouth. While Liverpool progressed to the quarter-finals where an away tie at Southampton awaits, Chelsea’s poor start to the season continued on Tuesday with their elimination from the Capital One Cup at Stoke on penalties after the match finished 1-1 after extra-time.

That result means Chelsea have won just five of their 16 matches this season in all competitions (including the Community Shield loss to Arsenal), with five defeats coming in the league resulting in their current lowly 15th place. They’ve conceded 19 times already in the Premier League (the third most in the division) and have won only two (3-2 at West Brom and 2-0 against Aston Villa at home), drawn two (2-2 with Swansea at home and 2-2 at Newcastle), with their five defeats coming against Man City away (0-3), Crystal Palace at home (1-2), Everton away (1-3), Southampton at home (1-3) and West Ham away (1-2).
