Liverpool continue their assault on the FA Cup with a quarter-final tie against six times winners Blackburn Rovers at Anfield on Sunday afternoon; 4pm kick off UK time. Gary Bowyer’s side stand between us, a return to Wembley and a 24th semi-final appearance in this competition.
The sides last met at Anfield during the 2011/12 Premier League campaign with the match ending in a 1-1 draw and you have to go back to 2000 to find Blackburn’s last victory at L4, which came at the 4th round stage of the FA Cup with Nathan Blake scoring an 84th minute winner. Steven Gerrard featured at right-back that day and he may add to his 20 appearances against Rovers, with only Jamie Carragher, Jack Cox and Arthur Goddard (all on 22) having featured more times than Gerrard in this fixture.
Blackburn have already knocked out two Premier League sides en-route to the quarter-finals, eliminating Stoke City (4-1) in the 5th round and Swansea City (3-1) in the 4th round – both at Ewood Park – while fellow Championship side Charlton Athletic were knocked out in round three with Rovers securing a 2-1 victory at the Valley. They currently occupy 10th in the Championship and their 2-1 victory at Sheffield Wednesday on Wednesday evening was their first win away from Ewood Park in 11 attempts. They’ve kept just two clean sheets on their travels all season and have failed to score four times away from home.
