Ahead of our semi-final encounter with Atletico Madrid, I thought it would be interesting to look back on the other occasions when we have reached this stage of the competition, as well as previewing the game against Maxi and Torres’ former team.

Four times previously we have enjoyed the roller coaster ride to the semi final of the UEFA Cup (or Fairs Cup). Each time the tie has been closely contested with never more than one goal between the teams over two games – it could well be the blueprint for this season’s matches as well.
