Liverpool will be hoping to gain some form of revenge when we host Steve Bruce’s Hull City on New Year’s Day, 3pm kick off UK time. The 1-3 defeat suffered at the KC Stadium on December 1st was arguably our poorest performance and result under Brendan Rodgers. Since that victory over us, Hull have drawn three (1-1 with Swansea away, 0-0 with Stoke at home and 1-1 with West Brom away), lost twice (0-2 at Arsenal and 2-3 to Manchester Utd at home) and hammered Fulham 6-0 at the KC Stadium – their biggest league victory since putting seven past Crewe Alexandra during the 1994/95 season in the old Division Two.

The last time the two sides met at Anfield in the league saw us record our biggest victory over the Tigers as Fernando Torres (3), Ryan Babel (2) and Steven Gerrard helped the Reds to a 6-1 triumph during the 2009/10 campaign. Hull are yet to win at Anfield from five attempts in the league.

The Tigers moved up to 10th place – seven points above the relegation zone – following their hammering of Fulham but have lost six of the nine away games played prior to Wednesday’s fixture.

Despite dropping down to 5th following two consecutive 1-2 defeats at Manchester City and Chelsea, we’re still in the mix for the Champions League places at the very least, and three of our next four league games are at Anfield (Hull, Aston Villa and Everton) where we’ve won eight of nine Premier League games played there this season.
