Ibrahima Konate has made a steady start to his career as a Liverpool player. In the playing time he has had so far, the French defender has been impressive at times, at other times a little cumbersome and slow to react to danger. But he has shown enough of the reasons why Jürgen Klopp and his coaching staff were interested in bringing him in from RB Leipzig.
The 22-year-old has played over 1100 minutes of football this season in all competitions (1168 to be exact), 630 of them in the Premier League. Now usually when a young player comes in, Klopp tends to take time with them and offer enough learning of how he wants that player to play in the system before throwing them in regular games.
Furthermore, Liverpool already had three established centre-backs in their squad, supposedly ahead in the pecking order at the start of the season in van Dijk, Matip and Gomez, albeit all three coming from long injury lay-offs last season.
