Part One by Gary Fulcher.
The last international break of the year is finally behind us as the focus switches back to domestic action for Liverpool with a trip St Mary’s Stadium on Saturday – 3pm kick off UK time – to face 10th place Southampton.
Claude Puel’s side have lost their last two Premier League games going down 0-2 against Chelsea at home and 1-2 at Hull City. Prior to those back-to-back defeats, the Saints had enjoyed a five match unbeaten run, recording wins against Swansea at home (1-0), West Ham away (3-0) and Burnley at home (3-1), with credible draws at Leicester City (0-0) and Manchester City (1-1).
Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 12 in all competitions and sit one point clear of Chelsea at the top of the Premier League. The Reds have won two and lost four of their last six league visits to St Mary’s, including the 2-3 reverse in last season’s corresponding fixture.
