16/17 Premier League Preview – Matchweek 8: Manchester Utd (H)
October 14, 2016 Gary Fulcher

Part One by Gary Fulcher.

Jose Mourinho’s Manchester Utd (words that individually are unpalatable and combined downright vomit-inducing) are the next visitors to Anfield for Monday Night Football  – 8pm kick off UK time – and it should be a fantastic occasion given the opposition and their new manager.

Liverpool entered the international break with 16 points from a possible 21, the same points total after seven games as 2013/14, and one less than 2008/09 and 1996/97. None of that means anything other than the Reds have made an excellent start to the season despite playing five of those seven games away from Anfield and the calibre of opposition faced.

Liverpool have lost the last four league encounters against Manchester Utd home and away, going down 0-1 at Anfield in the corresponding fixture last season, with our last league wins against Man Utd coming during the 2013/14 season when we recorded a 1-0 win at Anfield and a 3-0 win at Old Trafford. Overall our home record against the Red Devils in the Premier League reads eight wins, four draws and 12 defeats, while the Reds have kept just six clean sheets against Man Utd in those 24 league games at Anfield.
