Our FA Cup campaign begins at Anfield on Sunday (kick-off 3pm) against the team that knocked us out of last season’s FA Cup 4th Round 2-3 at Oldham. It’s the third consecutive season we’ve drawn the Latics in the FA Cup, having beaten them 5-1 at Anfield in the 3rd Round in January 2012, when a lone voice from the crowd drew press headlines of ‘Now the Kop is racist’ in the immediate aftermath of Suarez – Evragate. How far the club has come since those dark days just two years ago.
If Oldham’s lowly position in League 2 wasn’t enough reason for them to doubt their chances – they currently lie 19th, just above the relegation places, with 24 points from 23 games – their record at Anfield gives them even less grounds for optimism. Liverpool have won the last 6 league games, as well as that FA Cup victory. Oldham’s last win at L4 was 2-1 – December 1914! In total, in all competitions, we’ve played 33, won 22, drawn 5, lost 6.
Their recent form isn’t great either, losing their home game against Shrewsbury 1-2 on New Year’s Day. Oh, and their top scorer this season, with six goals, is called Rooney!
