Two new centre-backs – Preston’s Ben Davies and young Turkish international Ozan Kabak – signed before last night’s deadline, and one existing stalwart (Joel Matip) was then confirmed as out for the season, to make for all three of the Reds’ specialist centre-halfs ruled out for the entire campaign, with the 4th-choice also currently injured. Having already used 16 different centre-back pairings in the season, it seems the number will now top 20. Will this be some kind of record?
