Liverpool’s defence/attack of their Premier League crown got off to a winning start last Saturday, securing a thrilling 4-3 win over newly promoted Leeds Utd on the opening day of the season. Next up is a trip to Chelsea on Sunday – 4.30pm kick off UK time – where it seems Frank Lampard is intent on re-stoking the fires of a rivalry that was red-hot during his days as a player.
Given the funds he has spent in an attempt to close the 33 point gap between Klopp’s Champions and his Blues side from last season, Lampard will be under a lot more pressure than he ever has been in his brief managerial career if the wheels fall off and the abundance of attacking talent don’t heavily compensate for the defensive issues that saw them concede 54 league goals last season (more than any other side in the top ten).
