After a splendid season in the Championship at Blackburn Rovers, Harvey Elliott has come back to the Liverpool pre-season camp with more exuberance and hunger to make a step towards regular first-team action for the Reds during the upcoming season and hopefully beyond. Last week, he signed a new long-term deal with the club to reinforce his  intentions of progressing as a player at Anfield.

The ex-Fulham boy, who turned 18 in April, instantly caught the eye of many when he was 16. He played a handful of games for Jürgen Klopp’s men during the 2019-20 season, before being sent on loan to Blackburn last season in order to get him more game time. This was also probably done as part of the assessment process of his performances in a league as physically demanding as the English Championship.

The former England U17 international made 43 appearances in all competitions for the Rovers in that period, 33 of them coming from the start and 10 from the bench. He scored seven goals and assisted a further 11, while playing in three different positions for Tony Mowbray’s men at Ewood Park – right-winger, right-sided wide midfielder and a false nine.
