Once you set a record for unbeaten matches at Anfield in the league, the only sensible thing to do – surely – is to lose as many matches as possible in a row while there’s no fans? Like a government releasing unpopular information when everyone is focused on something else. There is no energy in the stadium, no atmosphere, just leisure centre echos. If you can do this while failing to score any goals in open play for what now feels like a full calendar year, then all the better. No point in doing things half-arsed…
