My Day at the Match (and the Match I Didn’t Make) – Tottenham (H) March 31st 2019

After the Sunday late slot at Goodison then the Sunday breakfast kick-off against Burnley, we’re back to the fag-end of the weekend for this one. As a Premier League football fan you get to test the full extent of the train service.

City’s win yesterday means we have to win to go back top, before City play again on Wednesday at home against Cardiff.

The thought that it’s April Fool’s Day tomorrow does nothing to calm me as I depart just after 10am to head for Manchester Victoria and cross over to Paltform 3 for the Lime Street train. Our pre-match walkabout takes in Dr Duncan’s, the Lion in Moorfields, the Railway next door, and Ye Hole in Ye Wall where there’s a dicey karaoke going on. We see Chelsea be awarded one of the most blatantly offside goals in a long time at Cardiff, and complain again about the abysmal standard of officiating in the Premier League, to the point where it’s devaluing the competition.
