Manchester City are Liverpool’s final opponents of 2016 when the two sides clash at Anfield on New Year’s Eve – 5.30pm kick off UK time – in a match that pits 2nd v 3rd, the leading scorers at home (25) v the leading scorers away from home (22). With Chelsea expected to make it 13 wins in a row when they face Stoke at Stamford Bridge earlier on Saturday, neither side will want to lose further ground on the current leaders, who hold a six point advantage over the Reds and seven points over City.
The corresponding fixture last season ended with Liverpool recording a 3-0 victory with Lallana, Milner and Firmino all scoring in a match played just three days after losing the League Cup final to City on penalties.
Klopp and Guardiola locked horns eight times during their time in charge of Dortmund and Bayern Munich, with both managers winning four games apiece.
