Krishen looks at the stats on our potential new Icelandic midfielder; compares them with other Liverpool FC midfielders; and asks whether Gylfi Sigurdsson will prove to be a successful signing, if he joins the Reds?
It has being widely reported that Gylfi Sigurdsson will soon be a Liverpool player. We’ve heard rumours before, but this one seems to have some legs. A 22 year old, Premier League proven (in the short time he spent in it), attacking midfielder, who is sought after by our manager and that won’t cost the earth. Seems to be exactly the kind of player we have needed so many times recently and a player that fits into the FSG philosophy of buying young and ahead of peak value.
But what will he bring to the Anfield party, if his £6.8m move to Swansea is gazumped? Is he actually any better than what we currently have? Or could the funds be used more effectively elsewhere?
