A mixture of youth and reserves will be hoping to seal Liverpool’s place in the 4th round with victory over Plymouth Argyle at Home Park on Wednesday – 7.45pm kick off UK time – with a home tie against Wolves the reward for the victors. The match is live on BT Sport.
The Pilgrims became just the 7th side to hold Liverpool to a draw at Anfield at the third round stage of the FA Cup following the 0-0 stalemate a week-and-a-half-ago.
It will be interesting to see if Plymouth will be more adventurous in front of their own supporters than they were at Anfield where they faced the youngest Liverpool side ever fielded, unless their goal is to try to knock out the Reds via the lottery of a penalty shootout. The Reds will also need to show more as an attacking force than they did at Anfield in order to prevent this tie from going to extra-time and penalties if they are faced with another highly defensive set-up.
The Pilgrims defeated Stevenage at Home Park on Saturday 4-2 to maintain their push for promotion from League Two, while Liverpool left Old Trafford with a 1-1 draw on Sunday.
