Liverpool headed into the festive season with a run of games that on paper should have presented a reasonable expectation of gaining some much needed points and the opportunity to move up the table. The game was played with an imposing noisy home crowd and there were a large number of incidents which were resolved with decisions that on occasions were correct, on others were incorrect – some lenient, some harsh. However, it’s fair to say that the match officials were not helped by the home crowd who were throwing thunder flares onto the pitch and clearly intent on creating an environment of intimidation.
Liverpool faced a testing fixture list in March with matches against Wigan, Lille (Home & Away), Portsmouth, Man Utd and Sunderland. It’s fair to say that Liverpool have not been blessed with many breaks this season from the men in black and have suffered a number of contentious decisions. So how would the men in the middle perform this month?
