Suarez – (Still) Not A Racist

Suarez – (Still) Not A Racist

By Paul Tomkins. Luis Suarez is still being labelled a ‘racist’, and Liverpool FC are being castigated for supporting said ‘racist’. Never mind that the FA’s findings stated, quite clearly, that they felt that he was not a racist. And never mind that if those at the club truly believe their employee, colleague and friend [...]

    League Cup Quarter-Final: Chelsea (A)

Just 9 days have passed since we last met (and defeated) Chelsea and one has to wonder why the footballing gods look upon our great club so unfavourably. Tuesday night’s visit to Stamford Bridge will be our 10th away match from the 13 cup games we’ve played over the past four seasons. Between 2004/05 and [...]

Early Exetering from the Carling Cup?

After a disappointing Carling Cup campaign last season which saw the “B” team defeated on penalties by Northampton, Liverpool start this season’s campaign at an earlier stage due to last season’s failure to qualify for European competition. Will this be the opportunity to utilise the squad to its fullest? And how have Liverpool performed against [...]

NESV and the Challenges of Owning Liverpool

Liverpool Football Club’s success in earlier decades drove major growth for the club and the odd cup successes here and there coupled with, in particular, Istanbul has seen enough success to drive on-going growth. But the question has to be – what happens next?

Lille (H) Pre / Post Match Discussion

The game against Lille will, no doubt, be perceived as yet another vital, must-win game, but with the game against Man Utd coming up 2 days later (and who do we need to thank for that act of scheduling genius), what will Rafa’s approach be ?

In some ways, the perfect game: at home, and very winnable indeed. The bad news is that the opposition have absolutely nothing left to lose, and they can just go out and enjoy the game; and the crowd will grow impatient quickly if the Reds aren’t leading early on.

The Media, Liverpool FC & You

If you do not have your facts straight, you don’t have an opinion; you just have hot air. An opinion without the facts is like a pop song without the words and music. Sometimes it’s better to say nothing than offer an opinion; no opinion is better than a wrong one. But in modern media life, an opinion on everything is a must.

    Liverpool’s 30 Most Expensive Transfers

Below are the results of the Relative Transfer System (©) I devised for Dynasty. The idea was to take all transfers as a % of the British record of the day, so that I could compare the spending of all eight Liverpool managers since 1959.

    Team of the Decade 2000-2010

    Team of the Decade 2000-2010

The most interesting thing for me when doing my Liverpool team of the decade was just how much of it could have belonged to last year’s almost-title-winning squad. In the end, however, in several cases I plumped for alternatives who were every bit as good, but who delivered more throughout the decade.

Once Aquilani gets this game under his belt, he’ll be up and running. He’s a quality player, but cannot be expected to turn the season on his own, especially while adapting to English football while returning to full fitness.

Rarely an easy place to go to, but providing Liverpool can field a fairly full-strength team, and deal with the long-balls into the box, I expect three points.

    What Shankly Proved

    What Shankly Proved

It’s not losing games that terrifies fans. It’s not even relegation; not at clubs like Liverpool.

It’s ‘going backwards’ that frightens the life out of supporters. It’s what makes them crazy. Fans have no real control, and some can’t handle that. Some of them send their crazy my way (gee, thanks for that).

Usual format: subscribers can discuss the game, before, during and after, using the comments boxes below. Massive match for both teams, although only one manager seems to be under pressure. Both clubs have had a lot of injury problems this season, which no doubt accounts for each being below par. Personally, I think it’d be [...]

So, can the Reds do it? Personally speaking, the performance, and a win, is more important than qualifying, which is out of our hands. Next priority, no more injuries! And a chance to see Aquilani from the start?

The LFC ‘Team’ That Got Away

The LFC ‘Team’ That Got Away

This is the ‘team’ that Liverpool failed to sign, going back to 2003. The interesting thing is that none of these players was especially expensive, but often too expensive for Liverpool all the same. In other cases, the powers that be at the club either vetoed or dallied over the deal.
