Liverpool continue their Europa League campaign with FC Sion making the trip to Anfield on Thursday – 8pm kick off UK time – with the Swiss side currently sitting top in Group B following their 2-1 win over FC Rubin Kazan two weeks ago. Liverpool drew 1-1 with Bordeaux in France a fortnight ago and will be hoping for a similar result to the last time these two sides met 19 years ago.

If you asked most Liverpool supporters to name their top five European games, it’s unlikely the match against FC Sion on October 31 1996 would be mentioned but for me, the 6-3 victory over Sion at Anfield during the 1996/97 Cup Winners’ Cup campaign would make my list purely for nostalgic reasons.
