Who We Can Sign In January – By The Numbers

It’s been a funny season. As fans, we approached the 14/15 season with tremendous optimism. The kind of bullishness that a team that had come some close to winning the title can be afforded.

On an individual level, all our signings looked good. On paper, and by reputation, some even looked great! But alas, it wasn’t to be. Some haven’t settled, others haven’t been given a run in the team, whilst others have just looked plain poor acquisitions.

The season isn’t over. We are ‘only’ seven points off 4th (City were nine points from Chelsea a few weeks back and facing a crisis of their own). We can still make it, although it will be a tough ask. But it is a target that we should be hitting giving our finish to last season. ‘Dropping’ down to 4th was the minimum expectation.

So now January has arrived, we may have the opportunity to put right some of the things we got wrong in summer. But with who?

I’ve looked at the data of the top 300 players in the top five leagues so far this season (as rated by WhoScored) to see if any of those players look statistically good enough to improve our team. By no means am I implying that any suggested players will definitely improve us, but occasionally a name will be thrown up by the numbers that otherwise may have slipped under the radar.
