League Cup Quarter-Final: Chelsea (A)

League Cup Quarter-Final: Chelsea (A)
November 28, 2011 Gary Fulcher

Just 9 days have passed since we last met (and defeated) Chelsea and one has to wonder why the footballing gods look upon our great club so unfavourably. Tuesday night’s visit to Stamford Bridge will be our 10th away match from the 13 cup games we’ve played over the past four seasons.

Between 2004/05 and 2008/09, the two sides met each other on no less than 24 occasions in the Premier League and various cup competitions. To show just how competitive both sides were at the time, the clubs contested three Champions League semi-finals one Champions League quarter-final, one FA Cup semi-final and one League Cup final.

At stake on Tuesday night is a place in the semi-finals but due to the scheduling of this fixture, it’s unclear how many of the players who featured in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City will make the trip to London.
