    Media Muppet of the Month

There are a few perennial contenders for this popular feature on TTT, but it’s too easy to give it to Paul Merson, for suggesting, sarcastically, that Rafa is the kind of manager who’d want to win the Europa League (I mean, what the… ?), or Mark Lawrenson, for a piece so offensive in using Hillsborough to attack Rafa, even the Daily Mirror removed it. No, this time it goes to man whose name is synonymous with pants.

    The Key Position?

    The Key Position?

The most important player in any football team? I grew up believing it was the centre-forward (the fact that I played there may have somewhat cemented this belief).

    Reasons Benítez Belongs

    Reasons Benítez Belongs

I’ve said for ages that Benítez will never get a fair assessment from certain fans, and sloppy, or vindictive journalists. I’ve spent years fighting the myths that surround the manager, and now is the time to draw a number of those points together, in short recaps (with links to the more detailed analysis).

Although he lived in Glasgow and worked as a GP in Lanarkshire, Dr Phillips, 34, had been born and bred in Huyton, Merseyside. A devoted Liverpool supporter, he had achieved the Holy Grail of every fan by obtaining a season ticket for Anfield and travelled down religiously to see the Reds.

Match Preview: Last Sunday’s draw with Fulham has all but ended Liverpool’s hopes of finishing in the top four but with Man City at home to Man Utd and Spurs hosting Chelsea, the gap to 4th place could be down to 3pts if results go our way this weekend and we beat West Ham.

MOST MEMORABLE GAMES: St Etienne, March 1977

Clinching the League at Molineux in May 1976 and adding the UEFA Cup was only the start of the most golden period in the Reds’ history – though of course you didn’t know at the time what was coming.

    Sub Standard? Rafa’s Subs Record

The season where Liverpool’s first tactical substitution was on average the latest after the opposition’s (2008/09), was the most successful league season the club has had in years. More relevant to this study, it was the year with the highest number of substitutions that turned losses to wins: six.

Idiot of the Day – überstupid

Sometimes it’s entertaining to read the foolish words of others, and let them hang themselves on the rope of their own stupidity. I need add nothing to this, as it’s a classic. Indeed, this email was so deranged and hyperbolic it actually made me chuckle.

The mid-nineties were a great time to be young in England. You had alcopops in your bloodstream, moody checked shirts on your back, bleach in your hair, Britpop in your speakers and, if you were a Red at least, you found God.

    Fulham (H) Pre/Post-Match Discussion

Some people may be getting bored with the “must win” label attached to every LFC game recently but that is the reality of the situation we find ourselves in. Failing to beat Birmingham last Sunday leaves us 4pts behind 4th place Manchester City (who also have a game in hand) with 15 points to play for. As it stands two defeats for Man City would still leave us 1pt behind them (if they won 4 out of their 6 remaining games) so winning all 5 of our remaining games may still not be enough to finish 4th.
