The recent thread on here about ‘youthful promise’ got me thinking about where and how a top club like Liverpool sources its players.

Unless an obscenely rich Arab parachutes in, it looks like we’ll be hamstrung at the heavyweight end of the transfer market for the foreseeable future – at least compared to those we’re trying to compete with.

The alternative usually offered is to produce your own, something we’ve been actually been conspicuously successful at over the last 40 years, if not quite so good recently.
